We love a picnic, and when the sun is shining there is nothing better than tucking into local produce surrounded by Cornish countryside. If you’re looking for the perfect spot to sit down and take in some beautiful scenery, you could visit Golitha Falls and wander along the riverside, or take a trip to the Hurlers in Minions and eat your picnic surrounded by the vast moors. Have a look at the Liskeard Walks page for more inspiration.
If we’ve piqued your interest in a bit of alfresco dining this summer, you’ll find everything you need to eat like a king (or queen) in Liskeard – and maybe even a picnic basket to carry it all in too!
Cold meats and artisan cheese
There’s nothing better than a slice of home-cooked honey roast ham to fill a baguette or roll. Visit Philip Warren at Oughs for their traditionally prepared cold meats, wonderful cheese selection and ready-to-eat pies. It’s also worth knowing that Pengelly’s Fishmongers stocks a range of deli items.
Freshly baked bread
Salad and strawberries
Celery sticks, cherry tomatoes and Cornish strawberries. If you’re looking for fresh produce Liskeard has plenty of options. You’ll find Beddoe’s Greengrocers on the corner of Fore St, and Continental Fruits on Baytree Hill.
Hampers and plates
Baytree Trading is a treasure trove of antiques and vintage items and we’ve spotted a picnic basket there in the past, so it’s definitely worth a look. You could also take a look in HE Goldsworthy. Also be sure check out Zero2Vintage for their beautiful vintage plates and cups.
Based in Duloe, just a short drive from Liskeard’s town centre, Cornish Orchards produces a wide range of ciders, ginger beer and apple juice. If wine’s your tipple you’ll find a selection in the Cooperative Food on Barras St.
